I
was born in Pendleton, Oregon and moved to Fair Oaks, California
at age 6. As a youngster I took Polynesian dancing, ballet, tap,
jazz, gymnastics, singing, piano and baton. Yes, I was very active
and enjoyed staying busy. I started baton at age 9 and by 10 had
won my first State championship. I twirled mainly with the USTA
organization and some with NBTA. During my 9 years of competing
I won State, Regional, Nationals and World championships. During
that time I also competed in pageants, talent shows, singing competitions,
dance competitions and was on my Junior High school gymnastics team.
I attended Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, California. Following
graduation I went on to the University Of Iowa on an athletic scholarship
where I was a featured baton twirler. Twirling at the Rose Bowl
and the Rose Bowl Parade, made it an even more exciting year.
After
Iowa, I moved to the Bay area (San Ramon, California) and attended
Diablo Valley College. I was Miss San Francisco in 1989 and the
winner of the Talent and Quality Of Life awards at the Miss California
Pageant. I was also a 49er cheerleader for 6 years (1988-1994).
During that time I was chosen to be on the Pepsi Cola dance team
that toured England. I was a featured performer at the American
Bowl in Japan at halftime doing a baton routine. While with the
Forty Niner Gold Rush I performed at several American Bowls in many
different countries (England, Japan, Germany, and Spain). I also
performed at two Super bowls (Miami and New Orleans). I even have
a Super Bowl watch and ring as mementos of those occasions!
During
college and while being with the Forty Niner's I worked at a bank
(as a teller, customer service representative and new accounts representative),
at a chiropractors office, at an ophthalmology surgery center as
a medical assistant, and at a law office as a legal assistant and
administrative assistant. I have been given many opportunities to
work with, talk and perform in public. I was a motivational speaker
for "Pros for Kids" when I was a Forty Niner cheerleader.
We talked and performed at Elementary, Junior High and High School
assemblies. We worked on character counts qualities and why and
how to say "no" to drugs.
My
husband Bret proposed to me on the field in the middle of a Forty
Niner's game and his proposal was featured on the Jumbotron (which
was quite the talk of the game amongst people, radio and television
stations). We lived in Sacramento for two years and started a family.
We then moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon where my husband is a High
School math teacher, soccer and basketball coach. I am a kick box
aerobics instructor, pump it up instructor and director of the aerobics
program. I am currently studying for my personal certification.
We have three children (ages 3, 6 and 8).
I started
competing in Fitness as a challenge to get in shape and because
I missed performing on stage and the thrill of competing. I started
training in May 2001 and did my first competition in August (the
Northern California Regional Fitness America competition) which
I won. I went on to compete in the 2001 ESPN series in November
in Las Vegas and placed 4th . I also competed in the Fitness America
Nationals in Las Vegas and placed 21st out of nearly 100 girls.
In April of 2002 I won the NPC Oregon Ironman fitness championships
in Lincoln City, Oregon. Then in June I went to the Fitness Universe
in Miami Beach, Florida and placed 5th in preliminaries and 11th
in finals out of 60 of the best girls from all around the World.
I recently competed in the Mid West Fitness America championships
in Minneapolis where I won the Elite Division and placed 2nd in
the Short Class. I placed 21st out of over 80 girls this year at
the Fitness America Nationals. I missed 20th by .5pts. I was disappointed
mainly in myself as I felt I did not do the job on my routine I
had hoped to do. My goal was to break that top 20. I am excited
I qualified to go back to the Fitness Universe in Miami Beach in
June. You can bet I will be better prepared!!
I
have always enjoyed setting new goals for myself and love a good
challenge. I constantly strive to improve and better myself. I am
a hard and dedicated worker. Some form of fitness has always and
will always be a part of my life. My parents instilled in me the
confidence that I could do and accomplish anything I put my mind
to. I feel that I am a balanced person in mind, body and spirit.
I enjoy weight training, dancing, gymnastics, aerobics, water skiing,
jet skiing, snow skiing, eating healthy and most of all spending
time with my husband and three children. I thank God for all the
people he has put in my life and the many blessings he has bestowed
upon me.
